No — and this is the part that matters most. The same researchers revisited their work in the AI era and were blunt: software has no body. Sitting across from a nervous first-time buyer, reading a room, earning trust in person — that gets more valuable as the routine work disappears.

Analysts now split the job in two. Tier 1 — market analyses, MLS entry, listing copy, offer modeling, transaction coordination, disclosure checks — used to be worth $1,500–$3,500 a listing. For an agent using AI well, that same work now costs about as much as lunch.

Tier 2 doesn’t fit in a prompt box: hard negotiation, calming someone through the biggest purchase of their life, judgment standing inside the actual house, knowing which streets flood — and being the licensed human who’s accountable when it counts. That’s 22 years and 375 homes. No model has that.

Not anymore. By early 2026, the large majority of agents already use AI — and almost everyone else plans to. The “should I?” debate is over. The honest catch: only about 1 in 6 say it’s truly changed their business — because owning a tool isn’t the same as rebuilding how you work.

Another agent who uses it. The 2026 reporting says it plainly: agents aren’t losing to AI — they’re losing to colleagues who pair AI with their local knowledge. It comes down to speed. A two-minute reply beats a two-hour one every time, while the manual agent burns the whole day on work AI handles in the background.

The ground’s already shifting. Home sales have sat near 30-year lows for three straight years, and the big names are merging — Compass + Anywhere, The Real Brokerage + RE/MAX, eXp + NextHome. In a thin market, the firms that fold are the ones still doing everything by hand while leaner rivals move faster for less.
